High-viscosity extrusion polyamide PA6 — Tarnamid® T-30
Description
Tarnamid® T-30 is an unfilled high-viscosity polyamide 6 (PA6) (viscosity number 240 cm³/g per ISO 307) from Grupa Azoty (Tarnów, Poland). Its high molecular weight gives the melt the strength needed for extrusion: sausage casings, blown and cast mono- and multilayer film, small-diameter tubes, sheets, rods and profiles. The grade is also suitable for moulding thick-walled parts where melt viscosity and crack resistance matter.
Material Wizard supplies Tarnamid® T-30 in Ukraine (subject to availability), in the manufacturer's standard 25 kg bags, with Grupa Azoty technical documentation. On request we provide technical support on processing, parameter selection and substitution with comparable grades.
Key properties
- Viscosity number 240 cm³/g and MVR 25 cm³/10 min (275 °C / 5 kg) — stable extrusion without bubble or profile sag
- Tensile modulus 2 800 MPa, yield stress 78 MPa (dry); strain at break above 50 % — ductile failure dry and conditioned
- Notched impact strength 6 / 13 kJ/m² (dry / conditioned) — higher than the moulding grade T-27
- Melting temperature 221 °C, VST/B/50 195 °C
- Oxygen and aroma barrier in films — per manufacturer data for packaging applications
- Moisture absorption 3.0 % (23 °C, 50 % RH) — films and casings are conditioned for elasticity
- Shrinkage 1.4 %; rod and sheet extrusion requires controlled cooling to relieve internal stress
- Flammability HB (IEC 60695-11-10)
Applications
- Artificial sausage casings and barrier films for the food industry
- Blown and cast film, mono- and multilayer (combined with PE via tie layers)
- Small-diameter tubes, pneumatic tubing, cable protective sheaths
- Rods, sheets and profiles for subsequent machining
- Thick-walled moulded parts with elevated crack-resistance requirements
Processing recommendations
Extrusion. Pre-drying is mandatory: 80 °C for 4–6 h to a residual moisture of no more than 0.1 % (films: 0.05 %). Melt temperatures 240–265 °C; for rods and sheets, slow cooling in a heated water bath to reduce internal stress. Thick-walled injection moulding: barrel 240–270 °C, mould 70–90 °C. These settings are general for this PA6 class; exact parameters for a specific part should be aligned with the manufacturer's data sheet and confirmed by trial processing.
Alternative from Material Wizard
For projects that require local availability or supply continuity, we offer extrusion polyamide 6 grades from the Material Wizard portfolio — Promyde® B33L and Promyde® BF840, comparable in viscosity and key properties. Material Wizard engineers will help select the material and qualify the substitution on your product.
