High-modulus polyamide PA6 with 50 % glass fibre — Tarnamid® T-27 GF50
Description
Tarnamid® T-27 GF50 is a polyamide 6 (PA6) from Grupa Azoty (Tarnów, Poland) with 50 % glass fibre, heat-stabilised. The stiffest grade of the T-27 GF series: tensile modulus 16 000 MPa and tensile strength 220 MPa dry, HDT/A 210 °C. The high glass content lowers moisture absorption to 1.5 % (23 °C, 50 % RH), so the stiffness drop after conditioning is smaller than for GF30: 11 000 MPa versus 5 700 MPa.
Material Wizard supplies Tarnamid® T-27 GF50 in Ukraine (subject to availability), in the manufacturer's standard 25 kg bags, with Grupa Azoty technical documentation. On request we provide technical support on processing, parameter selection and substitution with comparable grades.
Key properties
- 50 % glass fibre — tensile modulus 16 000 / 11 000 MPa (dry / cond.), strength 220 / 150 MPa (ISO 527)
- HDT/A 210 °C per ISO 75-2 (1.8 MPa), VST/B/50 215 °C — loaded parts at elevated temperature
- Unnotched impact 100 kJ/m² (23 °C and –30 °C), notched 18 / 14 kJ/m² — high energy absorption thanks to fibre length
- Moisture absorption 1.5 % (23 °C, 50 % RH), saturation 5.0 % — best dimensional stability among the series' GF grades
- Shrinkage 0.4 % parallel / 1.0 % normal — at 50 % glass, warpage calls for symmetric walls and well-placed gates
- MVR 20 cm³/10 min (275 °C / 5 kg) — adequate gate cross-sections and injection pressure required
- Density 1.55 g/cm³ — consider in part-mass and cost-per-volume calculations
- Flammability HB (IEC 60695-11-10)
Applications
- Metal replacement in brackets, supports, pedals and structural elements
- Gearbox and pump housings, high-load power-tool parts
- Chair bases and premium furniture frames
- High-load fasteners, anchors and plugs
- Automotive engine-bay and chassis components
Processing recommendations
Injection moulding. Pre-drying is mandatory: 80 °C for 4–6 h in a dehumidifying dryer to a residual moisture of no more than 0.1–0.2 %. Typical barrel temperature profile 260–285 °C, mould temperature 80–100 °C. Use a screw and nozzle resistant to glass-fibre abrasion; regrind up to 20–25 % provided it is dried. These settings are general for this PA6 class; exact parameters for a specific part should be aligned with the manufacturer's data sheet and confirmed by trial processing.
Alternative from Material Wizard
For projects that require local availability, formulation flexibility or supply continuity, we offer our own grades Examid® PA6 GF50 Y and Examid® PA6 GF60 Y — highly glass-filled polyamide 6 grades of the Y line made in Ukraine and comparable in key properties. Material Wizard engineers will help select the material and qualify the substitution on your part.
