Medium-viscosity injection moulding polyamide PA6 — Tarnamid® T-27
Description
Tarnamid® T-27 is the base unfilled polyamide 6 (PA6) from Grupa Azoty (Tarnów, Poland) with medium viscosity (viscosity number 150 cm³/g per ISO 307). It is the core injection-moulding grade of the Tarnamid® range, intended for parts with high strength requirements, including thin-walled ones, and for fibre and monofilament production. All glass-filled (GF), impact-modified (I), flame-retardant (FRV0) and modified (MS/MCS) grades are built on T-27, giving processors a single raw-material platform.
Material Wizard supplies Tarnamid® T-27 in Ukraine (subject to availability), in the manufacturer's standard 25 kg bags, with Grupa Azoty technical documentation. On request we provide technical support on processing, parameter selection and substitution with comparable grades.
Key properties
- Tensile modulus 2 800 MPa and yield stress 78 MPa in the dry state; after conditioning (23 °C, 50 % RH) 1 100 MPa and 45 MPa, strain at break above 50 %
- High flow — MVR 120 cm³/10 min (275 °C / 5 kg) — fills thin-walled and long flow paths
- Melting temperature 221 °C, VST/B/50 195 °C; HDT/A 60 °C typical for unfilled PA6
- Notched impact strength 5 kJ/m² dry and 12 kJ/m² conditioned — toughness increases with moisture uptake
- Moisture absorption 3.0 % (23 °C, 50 % RH), saturation 9.5 % — part dimensions and stiffness depend on conditioning
- Shrinkage 1.4 % — typical for crystalline PA6; post-moulding conditioning stabilises geometry
- High resistance to oils, fuels and many solvents; the specific medium requires verification
- Flammability V-2 (IEC 60695-11-10) without flame retardants
Applications
- Injection-moulded technical parts: bushings, rollers, housings, covers, cable ties and fasteners
- Thin-walled products and parts with long flow paths where high flow matters
- Household appliances and power tools: gears, levers, mechanism parts
- Fibres and monofilament (bristles, fishing line, technical yarns) — per manufacturer data
- Base for in-house compounds: glass or mineral filling, impact modification
Processing recommendations
Injection moulding. Pre-drying is mandatory: 80 °C for 4–6 h in a dehumidifying dryer to a residual moisture of no more than 0.1–0.2 %. Typical barrel temperature profile 240–270 °C, mould temperature 60–90 °C. These settings are general for this PA6 class; exact parameters for a specific part should be aligned with the manufacturer's data sheet and confirmed by trial processing.
Alternative from Material Wizard
For projects that require local availability, formulation flexibility or supply continuity, we offer our own grades Examid® PA6 2320NC and Examid® PA6R G — an unfilled injection-moulding PA6 and its cost-effective recycled version made in Ukraine and comparable in key properties. Material Wizard engineers will help select the material and qualify the substitution on your part.
