Heat-stabilised polyamide PA6 with 30 % glass fibre — Tarnamid® T-27 GF30
Description
Tarnamid® T-27 GF30 is a polyamide 6 (PA6) produced by Grupa Azoty (Tarnów, Poland), reinforced with 30 % glass fibre and heat-stabilised for service at elevated temperatures. The grade belongs to the Tarnamid® T-27 GF range (10–50 % glass fibre) and is intended for injection moulding of structural parts with high stiffness and strength. The base polymer is the medium-viscosity PA6 T-27, so the material fills moulds well, including thin-walled cavities, and can be combined with other Tarnamid® grades in one production flow.
In the dry state Tarnamid® T-27 GF30 shows a tensile modulus of 9 500 MPa and a tensile strength of 175 MPa; after conditioning (23 °C, 50 % RH) the values change to 5 700 MPa and 110 MPa — typical behaviour of glass-filled PA6 that must be considered in part design. The heat deflection temperature HDT/A is 200 °C per ISO 75-2 (1.8 MPa) and the melting temperature is 221 °C. Flammability rating HB (IEC 60695-11-10); for V-0 requirements the range includes a separate grade, T-27 GF30 FRV0.

Key properties
- 30 % glass fibre — tensile modulus 9 500 MPa and tensile strength 175 MPa in the dry state (ISO 527)
- Heat-stabilised formulation — resistance to thermo-oxidative ageing in continuous service up to 120–130 °C, short-term higher (to be verified on the part)
- HDT/A 200 °C per ISO 75-2 (1.8 MPa), VST/B/50 215 °C — dimensional stability under load at elevated temperature
- Charpy notched impact strength 13 kJ/m² at 23 °C and 8 kJ/m² at –30 °C (dry) — predictable low-temperature behaviour
- MVR 45 cm³/10 min (275 °C / 5 kg) — good flow for thin-walled and complex parts
- Low shrinkage of 0.3 % in flow direction — accurate geometry for tight-tolerance parts; shrinkage anisotropy (0.9 % across flow) must be accounted for in mould design
- High chemical resistance to oils, fuels and many solvents, typical of PA6; the specific medium requires verification
- Good electrical insulation in the dry state; moisture absorption of 1.9 % (23 °C, 50 % RH) affects electrical properties and dimensions

- Automotive: brackets, sensor and connector housings, covers, cooling and air-intake system components
- Electrical engineering: circuit-breaker housings, terminal blocks, socket and contactor parts where stiffness and heat resistance matter
- Machine building: gears, pulleys, levers, guides, gearbox and pump housings
- Household appliances and power tools: housings, motor mounts, fan impellers
- Furniture hardware and construction fasteners: chair bases, hinges, high-load plugs and anchors
Processing recommendations
Injection moulding. Pre-drying is mandatory: 80 °C for 4–6 h in a dehumidifying dryer to a residual moisture of no more than 0.1–0.2 %. Typical barrel temperature profile 250–280 °C, mould temperature 80–100 °C (higher values give better surface quality and higher crystallinity). Use a screw and nozzle resistant to glass-fibre abrasion; regrind up to 20–25 % provided it is dried. These settings are general for the PA6 GF30 class; exact parameters for a specific part should be aligned with the manufacturer's data sheet and confirmed by trial moulding.
