Semi-Aromatic PPA/PA66 Blend, 30% Glass Fiber — Examid® PPA PA66 GF30 Y

Description

Examid® PPA/PA66 GF30 Y is a semi-aromatic polyamide blend (PPA + PA66) with 30% glass fiber. An engineering compromise: heat resistance close to neat PPA (HDT of 275 °C at 1.8 MPa, melting at 310 °C) with processing simpler and cheaper than full polyphthalamide.

Mechanics exceed standard PA66 GF30: tensile strength of 210 MPa (vs 180), flexural strength of 280 MPa, modulus of 10,000–10,500 MPa. Izod impact of 75 kJ/m² unnotched, 13 kJ/m² notched.

Positioning: parts where PA66 GF30 falls short on temperature but full PPA is cost-excessive — engine-zone housings, E&E components, structural elements serving up to 180–200 °C. Processing: melt 320–335 °C, mold 100–140 °C — milder than neat PPA (135–165 °C). Up to 25% regrind.

PPA/PA66 blend: PPA heat resistance at closer-to-PA66 pricing
Applications: engine-zone housings, E&E components, structural parts serving up to 180–200 °C, assemblies where PA66 GF30 lacks heat resistance.

FAQ

How does the PPA/PA66 blend differ from neat PPA?

Same HDT of 275 °C, but mold at 100–140 °C instead of 135–165 °C: water temperature control suffices, and the price is lower. Moisture uptake is slightly above neat PPA.

When to switch from PA66 GF30 to this blend?

When the part operates above 150 °C or degrades from heat aging: the blend adds +25 °C in HDT (275 vs 250) and 210 vs 180 MPa strength.

Is drying required before molding?

The material ships pre-dried in sealed packaging; if opened for over 1 hour, dry 4–6 h at 80 °C to ≤0.2% moisture.
