40% Glass Fiber Polyphthalamide — Examid® PPA GF40
Description
Examid® PPA GF40 is a polyphthalamide reinforced with 40% glass fiber. The semi-aromatic matrix places the material in the high-temperature class: melting point of 310 °C, HDT of 275 °C at 1.80 MPa — a range inaccessible to aliphatic PA66 GF.
PPA's second advantage is moisture uptake of 0.9% (23 °C, 50% RH), 2.5–3× lower than PA66: mechanics and dimensions stay stable in humid environments. Tensile modulus of 13,500 MPa, strength of 155 MPa, Charpy unnotched impact of 100 kJ/m². Dielectric strength of 27 kV/mm supports E&E service.
The niche: connectors and power-electronics housings, engine-zone parts, metal and PPS replacement in hot humid assemblies. Class analogs — Ultramid® Advanced N GF, Grivory® HTV. Processing: melt 320–335 °C, mold 135–165 °C — hot mold temperature control required.
FAQ
When PPA instead of PA66 GF?
When service temperature exceeds 150 °C or humid-environment stability is required: HDT of 275 °C and 0.9% moisture uptake vs 250 °C and ~2.5% for PA66 GF.
What to consider when molding PPA?
Melt at 320–335 °C and a hot mold at 135–165 °C (oil temperature control) are mandatory for full crystallization and stable geometry.
Which analogs does it replace?
The Ultramid® Advanced N GF40 and Grivory® HTV-4X1 class — at substantially better procurement economics.
