High-performance glass-filled polyamide Examid PA610 GF50
Description
Examid® PA610 GF50 — an injection-molding grade of polyamide 6.10 reinforced with 50 % short glass fiber, heat-stabilized. The base PA610 molecule is ~40 % bio-based (sebacic acid derived from castor oil). It combines maximum structural stiffness with the unique advantage of PA610 — hydrolysis resistance and low water absorption.
Compared with PA66 GF50, it wins wherever the part is in prolonged contact with hot water, steam or glycols: PA66 GF50 loses up to 50 % of its stiffness at moisture saturation (7 %), while PA610 GF50 loses about 20 % (3 %). This is a critical difference for cooling system components, water pumps, coffee machines, dishwashers and washing machines. Compared with PPS GF50, PA610 GF50 has a lower service temperature (up to 130 °C vs 230 °C for PPS) but is 3–4 times cheaper and easier to mold.
Typical parameters: tensile modulus ~17 000–18 000 MPa (ISO 527), yield strength ~200–220 MPa, HDT/A ~210 °C (ISO 75-2, 1.8 MPa), density ~1.70 g/cm³. Tm ~220 °C — continuous service temperature up to 130 °C, short-term up to 160 °C.
Key advantages
- Low water absorption: ~3 % at saturation (vs ~7 % for PA66) — stable stiffness and geometry in humid environments, hot water and steam
- High stiffness: tensile modulus ~17 000–18 000 MPa (ISO 527) — structural level for metal replacement
- High heat resistance: HDT/A ~210 °C (ISO 75-2, 1.8 MPa); service temperature up to 130 °C continuously
- Hydrolytic resistance: long service life in contact with hot water and glycols, where PA66 GF50 loses its properties
- Bio-based origin: ~40 % of carbon from renewable feedstock — reduced carbon footprint in LCA
- Good flow for thin-walled and complex geometries
- Low shrinkage of ~0.2–0.4 % longitudinally — dimensional repeatability in series molding
Applications
- Engine cooling systems: thermostat housings, water pump impellers, fittings, glycol circuit pipes — prolonged contact with hot antifreeze
- Household appliances with hot water contact: structural components of coffee machines, boiler groups, dishwashers, washing machines and steam generators
- Structural plumbing hardware: reinforced fittings, mixer and thermostatic valve bodies, underfloor heating manifolds
- Marine infrastructure: fasteners, pump housings, yacht hardware components in contact with salt water
- Electrical engineering in humid environments: outdoor junction boxes, pump controller housings
- Premium automotive interiors and e-mobility: structural components with brand ESG labeling (BMW Group, Volvo and Polestar use bio-based PA in premium models)
