Flame Retardant for Polycarbonate and PC/ABS

Description

Exaflame PC is a non-toxic flame retardant based on metal sulfonate salts for polycarbonate (PC) and polycarbonate/ABS blends (PC/ABS). A halogen-free system — no bromine or chlorine, with low smoke emission and zero toxicity of combustion products. Provides UL94 5VA and V0 ratings at loadings below 0.3% — the highest efficiency on the market for PC. It does not alter the transparency or mechanical properties of the matrix. An alternative to Cabot KSS and 3M FR-2025 in transparent and translucent PC applications.

Key properties

  • UL94 5VA + V0 at <0.3% loading — outstanding efficiency
  • Halogen-free system — compliant with RoHS, REACH
  • Low smoke emission, non-toxic combustion products
  • Preserves PC transparency — suitable for transparent components
  • Does not affect the impact strength or HDT of the matrix
  • Compatible with PC, PC/ABS, PC/PBT, PC/PET

Applications

Electrical engineering and electronics. Housings for sockets, switches and distribution boards, LED luminaire housings — requiring UL94 V0/5VA.

Aviation and rail transport. EN 45545-2 R22/R23 (Hazard Level HL2/HL3) — interior panels, insulation.

Transparent protective elements. Helmets, safety glasses, transparent guards for electrical equipment — where flame retardancy plus transparency is required.

Building materials. Polycarbonate multiwall glazing, greenhouses, roofing panels with fire-safety requirements.

Automotive. Mirrors, headlamps, electronic unit housings — per FMVSS 302 and OEM specifications.
