Grade designation: 612 \u2014 polyamide 6.12 (a molecule of hexamethylenediamine and lauryl diacid with 12 carbon atoms in the acid component), L \u2014 lubricated (internal lubricant for easier processing), 1100 \u2014 melt density indicator (nominal MFR for injection molding).<\/p>\n<p>PA612 occupies a unique intermediate position between PA610 and PA12: water absorption ~2.5 % (vs PA610 ~3 %, PA12 ~1.5 %), Tm ~218 \u00b0C (vs PA610 220 \u00b0C, PA12 178 \u00b0C), density ~1.06 g\/cm\u00b3 (vs PA610 1.08, PA12 1.01). It is the optimal material for applications with prolonged contact with water and aqueous solutions at moderate temperatures \u2014 where PA610 already shows dimensional growth, while switching to PA12 brings a substantial cost increase.<\/p>\n<p>Typical parameters: density ~1.06 g\/cm\u00b3, Tm ~218 \u00b0C, HDT\/A ~75\u201385 \u00b0C (ISO 75-2, 1.8 MPa), Tg ~50 \u00b0C, water absorption ~2.5 % at saturation, continuous service temperature up to 100 \u00b0C, tensile strength 50\u201360 MPa, tensile modulus 1.8\u20132.2 GPa, elongation at break 100\u2013200 %, notched Charpy impact strength 6\u20138 kJ\/m\u00b2 at 23 \u00b0C. UL 94 HB \/ V-2.<\/p>\n<h3>Key advantages<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water absorption ~2.5 %<\/strong> \u2014 3.5 times lower than PA6 and noticeably lower than PA610 \u2014 dimensional stability in contact with water<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tm 218 \u00b0C<\/strong> \u2014 close to PA610, higher than PA12 \u2014 allows continuous operation at temperatures up to 100 \u00b0C<\/li>\n<li><strong>The lowest water absorption among &#8220;classic&#8221; injection PA grades<\/strong> (after PA12) at a moderate cost \u2014 1.3\u20131.8 times the price of PA6, 1.5\u20132 times cheaper than PA12<\/li>\n<li>High resistance to fuels and hydrocarbons \u2014 positioned between PA610 (standard) and PA12 (premium)<\/li>\n<li>Internal lubricant \u2014 eases demolding and extends tooling life<\/li>\n<li>Hydrolysis resistance in hot water up to 80 \u00b0C \u2014 for household appliances and plumbing fittings<\/li>\n<li>Good electrical insulating properties, stable in humid environments<\/li>\n<li>Retains impact strength at \u221230 \u00b0C \u2014 suitable for outdoor use in temperate climates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>When to choose PA612 vs PA610 vs PA12<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>vs PA610:<\/strong> PA612 has slightly lower water absorption and better dimensional stability in humid environments \u2014 choose PA612 for precision parts in contact with water (water meters)<\/li>\n<li><strong>vs PA12:<\/strong> PA612 is 1.5\u20132 times cheaper than PA12 with comparable moisture resistance (2.5 vs 1.5 %); choose PA12 only when water absorption below 2 % is required, otherwise PA612 is the best price\/performance compromise<\/li>\n<li><strong>vs PA66:<\/strong> PA612 is 2\u20133 times better in moisture resistance but 1.5 times more expensive and lower in stiffness \u2014 choose PA612 for applications with constant contact with water\/glycols<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Limitations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>UL 94 HB \/ V-2 (standard) \u2014 not for FR-critical applications<\/li>\n<li>Stiffness 30 % lower than PA66 \u2014 for structural load-bearing parts consider PA66 GF<\/li>\n<li>Tm 218 \u00b0C limits continuous service temperature to 100 \u00b0C \u2014 for high-temp needs consider PA66, PPA, PEEK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Applications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water meters and metering equipment:<\/strong> housings, impellers, pulse sensor elements, water-metering fittings \u2014 prolonged water contact under temperature fluctuations<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fuel lines and fittings:<\/strong> fuel line connectors for trucks and special vehicles, protective sheathing of fuel lines \u2014 better resistance to biodiesel and E85 vs PA66<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hot-water plumbing hardware:<\/strong> fittings, thermostatic valve housings, manifold components of heating and underfloor heating systems<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pneumatic hoses and tubing:<\/strong> pneumatic lines of truck brake systems, medium-pressure hydraulic hoses, protective tubing for wiring harnesses<\/li>\n<li><strong>Household appliances in contact with water:<\/strong> structural components of coffee machines, steam generators, air humidifiers, dishwashers<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marine hardware:<\/strong> mounts and fittings for yacht equipment with prolonged exposure to the marine atmosphere<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premium cosmetic packaging:<\/strong> molded components of cosmetic containers where standard PA6 deforms under vapors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Global equivalents: DuPont\u2122 Zytel\u00ae 158L (PA612 lubricated), EMS-CHEMIE Grilamid\u00ae 2300, BASF Ultramid\u00ae D3K (PA610\/PA612 blend), Toray Amilan\u00ae CM3001G-15.
