As a result, parts retain dimensional stability in humid environments, exhibit 2\u20133 times lower creep after conditioning, and withstand contact with fuel, hydraulic fluid and antifreeze at operating temperatures of 90\u2013130 \u00b0C over the long term.<\/p>\r\n<br>\r\n<h3>How long-chain PA differ from PA6 and PA66<\/h3>\r\n<p>The methylene group (\u2013CH\u2082\u2013) between the amide bonds is longer: in PA12 there are 11 atoms, in PA11 there are 10, in PA610 there are 9 (from \u03c9-aminohexanoate). In PA6 there are 5, in PA66 there are 6. The longer the aliphatic chain, the lower the concentration of polar amide groups and the lower the water absorption. Dimensional change in a humid environment is 5\u201310 times smaller, while fatigue resistance under cyclic bending is higher. The trade-off is a lower melting temperature (178\u2013222 \u00b0C versus 260 \u00b0C in PA66) and a lower modulus of elasticity in the dry state.<\/p>\r\n<br>\r\n<h3>When to choose which grade<\/h3>\r\n<dl>\r\n<dt><strong>Parts in contact with water, antifreeze, fuel<\/strong> \u2192 PA612, PA12, PA11<\/dt>\r\n<dd>Water absorption of 0,3\u20130,5 % ensures stability of clearances in valves, fittings and fuel lines. PA12 is the standard for automotive fuel lines (SAE J2260, ISO 4080).<\/dd>\r\n<dt><strong>Metal replacement for brackets and housings<\/strong> \u2192 PA610 GF50<\/dt>\r\n<dd>A flexural modulus of 14\u201315 GPa (ISO 178) and a density of 1,42 g\/cm\u00b3 deliver specific strength higher than aluminium casting, without the moisture-related drop seen in PA66 GF.<\/dd>\r\n<dt><strong>Precision gears and bushings operating without lubrication<\/strong> \u2192 PA66 GF30-15PTFE<\/dt>\r\n<dd>Coefficient of friction against steel of 0,12\u20130,18 versus 0,30\u20130,40 in unfilled PA66. PV parameter up to 1,5 MPa\u00b7m\/s. Bushings for conveyor rollers, mechatronics guides.<\/dd>\r\n<dt><strong>Flexible pipes, tubing, cable jacketing<\/strong> \u2192 unfilled PA12, Rilsan\u00ae PA11<\/dt>\r\n<dd>Elongation at break of 200\u2013300 %, fatigue resistance under cyclic bending. PA11 \u2014 aerospace hydraulic lines, medical catheters.<\/dd>\r\n<dt><strong>Contact with drinking water (FWA, WRAS, NSF)<\/strong> \u2192 PA12 GF50-FWA<\/dt>\r\n<dd>Certified food\/water approval grade for water supply fittings.<\/dd>\r\n<\/dl>\r\n<br>\r\n<h3>Series from Material Wizard<\/h3>\r\n<p><strong>Examid\u00ae PA610 series<\/strong> \u2014 injection-moulding (PA610-L), extrusion (PA610E) and glass-filled (GF50) grades. The base is partially bio-based (sebacic acid from castor oil).<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Examid\u00ae PA612-L1100<\/strong> \u2014 the lowest water absorption in its class (0,3 % over 24 h), for precision parts in humid environments.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Examid\u00ae PA12, PA12 GF50-FWA<\/strong> \u2014 the standard for fuel lines, flexible pipes, contact with drinking water.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Rilsan\u00ae PA11 (Arkema)<\/strong> \u2014 high-end bio-PA. Aerospace and oil & gas flexible pipes, medical catheters. Fatigue endurance +30\u201350 % versus PA12 at RT.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Examid\u00ae PA66 GF30-15PTFE<\/strong> \u2014 self-lubricating compound. Assigned to the long-chain class by function (low friction, clearance stability without lubrication).<\/p>\r\n<br>\r\n<h3>Limitations<\/h3>\r\n<p>The operating temperature is lower than for PA66 and PPA: PA12 \u2014 up to 90 \u00b0C over the long term, PA11 and PA610 \u2014 up to 110\u2013130 \u00b0C, PA612 \u2014 up to 120 \u00b0C. For zones of 150 \u00b0C+ choose PPA or PA46. The price of long-chain PA is 1,5\u20133 times higher than PA66 due to the more expensive monomer.
